Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a chronic, debilitating mental health disorder affecting about 1.4 million Australians. Individuals affected by PTSD are more likely to develop anxiety, depression and substance-use disorders, and six times more likely to attempt suicide.
The PTSD research team aims to advance understanding of the neural underpinnings of PTSD by:
- The development of proven pharmaceutical and therapeutic interventions.
- Advocacy for patients and their families to improve quality of life.
- Delivery of evidence-based clinical services.
- Community engagement across the Sunshine Coast to raise awareness of trauma-related mental health conditions.
