Requirements to become a representative

• Be currently enrolled in a UniSC program and remain enrolled during your participation.
• Not hold a UniSC paid staff position 0.6FTE or more (professional or academic)
• Be prepared to facilitate and inspire success in your fellow students.
• Demonstrate a desire to represent others and contribute positively to learning and teaching at UniSC.

Time commitment of a representative

This role offers flexibility for you to contribute whilst working around your study commitments.

Your time commitment is approximately 10-20 hours per semester, depending on your role and level in the UniSC Student Senate:

• You are required to attend a minimum of four meetings in 12 months (meetings vary from 1-3 hours).
• You are asked to attend a minimum of four Student Rep events in 12 months (generally 1-2 hours per event).
• Executive members are elected for a 12 or 6 month term.

What group you will be a part of

You can opt in (and out) of any student representative group you are eligible for. After you register and attend a representative induction, you can choose up to 3 groups you wish to join.

• Undergraduate students can join their school group, or campus group (outside of Sunshine Coast).
• Postgraduate (HDR and coursework) students can join the Postgraduate Student Association.

There are also a number of liaison groups for specific student cohorts such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students, International Students, High Performance Student Athletes and students with a Disability.

What's in it for you

As a UniSC representative, you sit on a group within a UniSC Student Senate and will work in collaboration with your fellow peers and enhance your teamwork experience. In this role you will be exposed to university policies, services, and initiatives and provide feedback or advocate on behalf of all UniSC students. There are also options to self-nominate as an executive to take on a leadership role.

You will have the opportunity to develop the following Graduate Attributes: communication, collaboration (teamwork), problem solving, organisation, applying technologies, sustainability focused, knowledgeable, ethical, engaged, empowered and creative and critical thinking. Provide academic peer support to students by sharing study tips and help new students transition to university and settle into their studies.

Requirements to become a leader

This role requires experience studying at UniSC including:

• Be currently enrolled in a UniSC program and remain enrolled during your participation.
• Successful completion of at least 8 courses of study at UniSC.
• Good record of academic achievement with a GPA of 5.0 or above.

Additionally, this role has certain expectations to provide quality peer support:

• Demonstrate a desire to help others and contribute positively to UniSC and the community.
• Have a good knowledge of UniSC's services and facilities.
• Demonstrate a desire to expand your leadership skills and be prepared to facilitate and inspire success in your fellow students.

Time commitment of a leader

This role offers flexibility for you to contribute whilst working around your study commitments. Leader roles can vary from a one-off event to regular contributions throughout the year.

You nominate how often you contribute your time, by signing up for one or more opportunities on StudentHub.

What's in it for you

As a Student Leader you will share your study skills and experience with other students alongside Learning Advisers or professional staff. You can develop public speaking and communication skills while presenting at the workshops and responding to student enquiries.

The training for this role, assisting at the academic skills sessions and other volunteer opportunities you sign up for will grant you points towards the Student Leadership Award.

1. Read the UniSC Student Charter to be aware of your responsibilities. The Students as Partners program supports your engagement in an environment that is inclusive, inspiring, safe and respectful.
2. Compete the UniSC Health, Safety and Wellbeing for Students online training.
3. Complete the Respect at UniSC online training module.
4. Attend a Group Interview, available either face-to-face or online via ZOOM (excluding HDR students).
5. Complete the relevant online specialist training modules:
   • Student Leaders
   • Student Representatives
6. Attend the relevant specialist training:
   • Student Leaders: Academic Skills for Facilitating Peer Learning & Supporting Transition to University
   • Student Representatives: Induction
7. Opportunities will be advertised on Student Hub throughout the year. Some roles may require further training and criteria.
