Academics teaching at UniSC are supported by the Centre for Support and Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CSALT) as part of UniSC's efforts to give students a high quality educational experience. The CSALT team works with all staff services and projects.
Students will benefit from teaching staff who are supported to advance UniSC’s learning and teaching performance, particularly in the key service areas of:

Educational technologies
Technology can benefit all aspects of life. It can support learning and teaching, giving both students and staff access to a range of useful resources at any time and any place. The main technologies you may use as a UniSC student include:
- Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) — the main web system used for learning and teaching. All courses have a presence on Canvas, and each course site typically contains learning resources, assessment activities, collaboration tools, and lecture recordings - meaning you can access these anytime, anywhere.
- Canvas also provides access to Turnitin — a global database of academic papers that checks a student's work for originality and ensures correct references have been used.
- Online Learning materials - including formative quizzes, set readings, podcasts, interviews, simulations, screencasts and recorded discussions - are made available through Canvas course sites, where students can view them at any time.
- ePortfolios — UniSC uses the PebblePad ePortfolio system. This allows students to build portfolios to record development and acquisition of skills and knowledge. These portfolios can be kept for life, so after graduating they can continue to capture and evidence professional development. Every UniSC student will be provided with an account, so while it may not be used in every program, every student can still build their own ePortfolio.

Curriculum support
Lecturers and tutors have access to academic developers and educational designers to help them to achieve their academic goals and create positive learning experiences for students in both face-to-face and blended/online learning environments. The CSALT staff will particularly assist in key priority areas of Learning and Teaching at UniSC.

Professional learning
Learning experiences at UniSC are continually enhanced by academic staff actively participating in professional learning and discipline-based research.
Teaching staff have access to further professional development opportunities and support resources to further their expertise in all aspects of Learning and Teaching.
Foundations of University Teaching (Foundations) is a 10-week professional development course that provides UniSC staff with an introduction to teaching, learning and assessment in higher education.
Foundations has been identified in the Probation for Academic Staff - Procedures (Clause 4) as required during the probationary period for all new academic appointments, except where exemption has been approved by the DVC(A).

CSALT is part of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and the Director of CSALT reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
