Dr Ruth Greenaway is the Director of the Centre for Support and Advancement of Learning and Teaching at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Ruth has 30 years’ experience leading and teaching in secondary and higher education and is responsible for Scholarship of Learning and Teaching, Curriculum and Accreditation, Digital Learning Environment including Visualisation, and Academic Integrity at USC. Ruth is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy recognising her sustained record of effective strategic leadership in academic practice and development. She is a member of the Planning and Resources Committee of University Council and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Ruth is passionate about equitable access to education and knowledge and embraces diversity and inclusion with a particular interest in embedding Indigenous knowledges and perspectives into curriculum.
The Academy team supports the schools to advance innovation in curriculum that leads to student success. Support is provided in the areas of curriculum design, development and accreditation, professional learning and the use of educational technologies guided by the University strategic priorities, policies and procedures.
The current priorities include strategies that support students in their first year of study through curriculum design, multi-site delivery and online learning, embedding Indigenous knowledges and perspectives in the curriculum and Employability. Reward and recognition of excellence in learning and teaching is supported through the Advance HE Higher Education Academy Fellowships scholarly practice program and learning and teaching awards.
Ruth’s research interests include innovations in curriculum design and assessment, the use of technology to enhance learning both on campus and in the online environment and improving access and participation in higher education. She also has a keen interest in the design of innovative, technology rich learning spaces and works alongside staff and students in the development and use of next generation learning spaces including the use of visualisation and simulation in learning and teaching.
Ruth is a member of the VCP’s Senior Management Committee and the Moreton Bay Leadership Group for the development of the second stage of USC Moreton Bay campus, after successfully leading the learning and teaching pillar for the foundation building. She is an executive member of the Council of Australasian University Leaders in Learning and Teaching, the peak professional body for leaders in university learning and teaching and an executive member of HERDSA Qld.
Ruth has worked in both secondary and tertiary education for 30 years in NSW and QLD. She won an APAI scholarship to complete her PhD research titled: School-Community engagement: a critical approach to involving young people in urban planning. Ruth's work has expanded to include university-school-community engagement initiatives and grants.
