Unitywater's Fiona Waterhouse Women in STEM Scholarship

Unitywater Fiona Waterhouse Women in STEM Scholarship aims to support the advancement of education and upskilling of the workforce through providing financial support for deserving female students studying in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Receiving this scholarship may lead to employment opportunities though Unitywater's graduate program.

Fiona Waterhouse served as a Board Member for Unitywater from 2016 – 2021. Fiona  was a genuine and inspirational leader, and a pioneer in the emerging field of industrial bioproducts in Australia. Fiona was a production engineer by trade. Fiona owned and advised industrial and technology-related businesses for the past 20 years.

Fiona had a passion to show that people could make a mark in any industry regardless of their gender. This passion drove Fiona’s commitment to the development of women and first nations peoples across Unitywater and Industry in general. This scholarship aims to recognise Fiona’s legacy through supporting the education and development of outstanding female students studying in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Fiona's contribution both personally and professionally as Unitywater's Board Member will be missed and is honoured through this scholarship.

The Scholarship will be awarded to a female student enrolled in an eligible program who has an interest in the water industry, and is paid over two (2) years in instalments of $1,250 per Semester after Census Date.

Short-listed candidates may be required to provide a current copy of their resume and a covering letter.

Please Note:  This scholarship is offered on a yearly basis through funds provided by an external donor. If funding is not available in any given year, the scholarship will not be awarded.

Eligibility
  • female student enrolled in full-time undergraduate study in one of the following programs:
    • Bachelor of Computer Science
    • Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology
    • any bachelor degree within the School of Science, Technology and Engineering
  • commencing penultimate year of study
  • achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0
  • Permanent Resident of Australia, Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or Permanent Australian Humanitarian Visa holder
Selection criteria
  • academic merit
  • commitment to fully participate in work placement activities or other opportunities which may be offered by Unitywater 
Eligible programs
Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology, any bachelor degree within the School of Science, Technology and Engineering
