Profile

Jack Baynes is an expert in agroforestry extension in Australia and developing countries.

He is currently managing implementation of ACIAR project FST/2016/153, 'Enabling Community Forestry in Papua New Guinea'. As team leader for ACIAR project FST/2011/057 'Enhancing the implementation of community-forestry approaches in Papua New Guinea' he led an investigation into tree seedling nursery extension. Until recently, he led research into harvesting and marketing community managed forests in the Philippines.

From 2009 to 2011 Jack was engaged as a University of Queensland consultant to undertake reforestation of degraded farmland in Mindanao. Between 2004 and 2009, as one of the activities of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) project ASEM/2003/052, 'Improving Financial Returns to Smallholder Tree Farmers in the Philippines', Jack conducted research into the effectiveness of agroforestry extension to small holders. The results of this research have been published in his PhD thesis and in academic journals. Jack has visited Papua New Guinea (2003) and Nepal (2002) to undertake short research assignments.
