BMX Rider Tenniele Botfield studying a BEd(Sec)/ BRecOutdoorEnvStudies at USC Sunshine Coast

G'Day!

My name is Tenniele Botfield and I am undertaking my second year of study at USC Sunshine Coast. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Education (Secondary)/ Bachelor of Recreation and Outdoor Environmental Studies. This may sounds crazy, but BMX has been part of my life since I was born. Attending my first BMX race meet at 6 days old. I guess growing up around bikes and the BMX track, I was bound to have a new fond love for it. Ever since I went to the track and seen the pros, I knew that that's what I wanted to do. I currently belong to the Pine Rivers BMX Club, competing at a state, national and world level.

Training consists of at least 3 sessions a week, usually with an open race meet on Saturday. Sessions include; sprints, gym and track. Before a big race meet, I always have pasta or chicken for dinner. Although every race has its different challenges, goals and intentions, training usually consists of similar sessions. A clear, positive mindset when I step onto the gate is essential. This year I will compete at the BMX National Championships in Launceston in late March and the BMX State Championships in Ipswich in late September. I would also love to race at the BMX World CHampionships in Houston, Texas late May.

I think that the HPSA program at USC has many benefits and can offer a variety of immense support in order for me to achieve my sporting goals whilst undertaking my undergraduate studies. I am certain that the program provides a friendly community of athletes, great facilities, coaching and support among sport but with my studies too.
