USC connection: Completes strength training at USC Gym, studying a Bachelor of Business (Management)
Nambour student Chelsea Gubecka contested the 10km open water swim at Rio’s Copacabana beach, where she was just the second Australian woman to compete in the event.
Chelsea has a strong background in the ocean as a former competitor for Maroochydore, Kawana and Dicky Beach lifesaving clubs. She made her debut for the Australian swimming team at the 2013 World Championships aged just 14.
Chelsea secured her selection for Rio with a fourth-place finish at the Olympic Qualifying race in Setabul, Portugal, in a time of 1hr 55min 34sec.
Chelsea enrolled in a Bachelor of Business (Management) at USC this year after graduating from Kawana Waters State College, and now balances her studies with 80 to 100 kilometres of swimming each week, as well as intensive gym and pilates training.
