Teachers are more than just educators – they can shape how you see the world and help influence the person you become.

Just ask Kate Britz, whose Year 1 teacher left such an imprint on her that it influenced her career path.

It’s why she studied a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) at USC to become a teacher herself.

“I’ve always had a passion for teaching little kids,” Kate says.

“I had a really good experience with my Year 1 teacher, so that really left an impression on me.

“She was more than just a teacher – she was someone who really cared about you and that made you feel good. You wanted to learn from her because she was so passionate about what she did.”

Kate said she wants to take that passion and use it in her first teaching job at Doomadgee State School in remote north-west Queensland.

“I’m really excited to teach and live in an Indigenous community because I’m looking forward to seeing the students grow and develop and hopefully get the skills they need to set them up for the rest of their education,” Kate said.

“It’s not just about teaching for me – it’s about giving students a loving and caring environment where they can thrive.”
