This is an experiential sport-based program which aims to raise educational aspirations in Year 9 students from low SES backgrounds. The program is a partnership between USC, QLD Oztag and targeted secondary schools.
Sport for Thought is delivered over 10 weeks and consists of school based Oztag skills and game sessions and combined with school-based educational talks at week 1 and week 4 of the program on one of the following topics:
- Leadership and Teamwork: Keys to success
- Skill acquisition: Tips to take home
- Sports Psychology: Making the most out of pressure on game day
- Performance recovery: Getting the most out of your training
- Driving to the game: Road safety for L & P platers
- Sport and sports journalism
- Disruptive technologies for fun and games in sport and exercise research
- Nutrition for athletes
- Becoming a Sports Scientist
- Sports medicine: The first vital minutes
- Reflections on a journey to the Olympic Games
- Injury prevention for athletes
- Move well, Play well: Improve your game with biomechanics
- Prehab versus rehab
- Sports nutrition: Truths and myths about supplements
The program will culminate in an immersive day at the Sippy Downs campus where all participating schools will compete in an Oztag Cup Carnival.
