It was a proud parent moment for Debbie and Nick Orman when their daughter Rubie graduated from USC last year. Not only did Rubie attend the university her dad helped build more than 20 years ago, but she was also the first in their family to graduate from university.
Rubie wasn’t the only person in her family to attend USC, with mum Debbie making the decision to pursue an education later on in life. As a mum of three young children, Debbie knew she wanted to do more. With no one in her immediate family doing any study, she wanted to lead by example and guide her kids to pursue an education - which she certainly did with daughter, Rubie.
USC Parent Lounge sat down with Rubie’s parents earlier this year to talk about their experience as parents of a USC student and what advice they have for other parents.
If you or your child have questions about uni, you can chat online with a real USC student Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm. You can also visit and subscribe to the USC Parent Lounge for more tips and guidance on how to support your child in their journey to university study.
