UniSC offers Queensland's first degree in prosthetics and orthotics

Among the thousands of school leavers receiving university offers will be a select group of students being given the opportunity to enrol in Queensland’s first degree in prosthetics and orthotics.

The University of the Sunshine Coast is introducing the new three-year Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics next year at its Sippy Downs campus, and it has generated keen interest from those with a passion for working with people with amputations and musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre will make its first major offer round to students on 22 Decemeber since the release of Year 12 ATAR results.

Nursing Science, Primary Education, Behavioural Science (Psychology), Biomedical Science and business are the five most popular UniSC degrees according to the Class of 22’s QTAC preferences. There’s also continued strong demand in Psychology and Behavioural Science, Design and Creative Industries, and Engineering.

University of the Sunshine Coast Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students) Professor Denise Wood said it was important for those who may have missed out on an offer, or did not receive their first preference, to stay positive.

“There are many options if things do not go to plan. If students don’t receive their first choice, there are opportunities to re-think their preferences and with the help of our advisors explore other degrees and programs that can still allow them to reach their career goals,” she said.

“There are also alternative entries into university without relying on ATAR results. Students can start one of UniSC’s university pathway programs and then go on to undergraduate study once they have achieved the required units and grades."

Students have four days to accept their offers and can also change their preferences by 4 January to be considered in the next major QTAC offer round to be released on 12 January. Further offer rounds will be made in the lead up to the start of Semester 1 at the end of February.

UniSC’s team of future student advisers is available to provide advice on the various pathways to study and different programs on offer at UniSC and their requirements.
