A new USC graduate is using skills from her Arts/Business degree in a new healthcare industry job that involves frequent travel around north Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Haley Cobb, 21, this month gained a graduate position with Healius, a company that owns a network of medical businesses across Australia, including GP practices and day hospitals.

The Rathdowney resident and Beaudesert State High School graduate had moved to Sippy Downs to study the USC dual degree, which she received at a recent graduation ceremony.

“I’ve now moved to Maroochydore as a base to work in the healthcare imaging services division of Healius,” Haley said.

“I am really excited to be in this role because I am involved in the roll-out of a new imaging software which will benefit patients and medical practitioners.

“It is a digital platform to allow for more accurate and efficient assessments of X-rays, CT scans and MRIs, while preventing waste from non-biodegradable hard film copies.”

Haley said she would focus on building strong client relationships to help doctors and allied health workers understand how to use the program.

She said the skills and knowledge gained during her degree, such as how to communicate with customers and consumers, were vital to the role.

“I loved the flexibility of my degree, as well as the University’s support for student sport,” said Haley, who competed in badminton, soccer and the 10km run in Division 1 of the Australian University Games and was a team leader for the event in 2016.

“I was also fortunate to receive the Scott Williams AM Study Support Bursary and the USC Equity Bursary for multiple semesters.

“Coming from a small town, I had been afraid of being overwhelmed by life at a big uni. I chose USC because I was drawn to its cultural atmosphere and personal teaching aspect.

“The staff were open and welcoming, and I made great friends with international students while I was living in student accommodation. I felt like I belonged.”
