G-Day to help those in need continue studies

Generous people have already started digging deep to help students facing financial pressure to stay on track with their studies, with more than $80,000 already donated to USC’s G-Day fundraiser.

So far, almost 100 donors have donated for USC’s annual Giving Day on May 16, an early step towards the University’s goal to raise $150,000 to help students at risk of quitting their studies for financial reasons.

The community is able to contribute here.

USC Pro Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) Professor Joanne Scott said all funds raised would go towards Study Support Bursaries which help more students stay on track with their studies and improve their life.

“These bursaries will directly assist with study-related costs such as textbooks, food and transportation,” Professor Scott said.

“By supporting G-Day, people will be helping those in greatest need to continue pursuing their study goals and reach their full potential.”

Again, the Scott Williams Foundation had pledged to match G-Day donations dollar for dollar up to $75,000.

One hundred percent of every gift will go directly to students, and all donations of $2 or more are fully tax deductible.

USC’s Sunshine Coast campus will hold a G-Day breakfast and free massages to mark G-Day, while other campuses will hold morning tea events.

USC Sunshine Coast: A free G-Day breakfast will be held from 8am to 11am between Buildings B and K on the Sippy Downs Campus. The event will also feature free massages and a chill out zone.

USC Caboolture: Morning tea from 10-11am in Courtyard, outside J Building (near Student Central)

USC Fraser Coast: Morning tea at 10am in room C208

USC Gympie: Morning tea at 11am in the outside barbecue area
