Studying Mechanical Engineering with Honours at USC has landed a former Morayfield student an exciting role at a Brisbane engineering consultancy.

Jack Norman, 22, is a graduate mechanical engineer at Hatch Engineering, a job that offers new challenges and opportunities to develop his skills further.

“I enjoy working at a consultancy because of the broad range of jobs and projects I am assigned,” said Jack, who previously attended Morayfield State High School.

“Every day involves something new and it provides the opportunity to learn about the many aspects of mechanical engineering.

“My work mainly involves conducting engineering design calculations, generating datasheets and creating computer models of various systems.”

Jack said his studies had helped him think more systematically and to solve engineering problems more effectively.

“The skills I use mainly in my role are mathematics and engineering sciences, which I learned at university,” he said.

“University has also taught me how to learn new topics or concepts quickly, a skill that is valuable when you work in consulting.”

Jack said he had enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at USC.

“I enjoyed the teaching styles of the lecturers and tutors who were all very personable, easy-going and knowledgeable. And the courses gave me a good understanding of a variety of engineering sciences I use within my daily work.”
