Studio behind Bluey cartoon to give free public talk

“Mum! Dad! Bingo! Bluey!” It’s the infectious song-and-dance theme familiar to families across Australia and the globe, and two of the creatives behind the hit children’s show will speak at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday 14 August.

Two members of Brisbane-based Ludo Studio, co-founder and director Daley Pearson and producer Sam Moor, will give a free public talk about the astounding success of the animation series, which screens on ABC-TV and the BBC and has a new distribution deal with Disney.

USC Associate Professor of Creative Industries Anna Potter said it was a great opportunity for USC students and academics, as well as interested members of the public, to learn about the production of a homegrown show that has become the most popular ever on ABC iview.

It is about a six-year-old blue heeler dog named Bluey who enjoys family life in Brisbane.

The talk will be held on campus at Sippy Downs from 6pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday 14 August in lecture theatre LT3.

Associate Professor Potter, who is also USC Deputy Head of School (Research), said public talks with leading media practitioners were being held at USC on seven consecutive Wednesday nights to complement the children’s media course she was teaching this semester.

“I work closely with industry in my research and our School of Creative Industries is engaging students with industry representatives to help them learn from practitioners,” she said. “It’s fantastic networking for students.”

Jenny Buckland, CEO of the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, spoke at USC on Wednesday 7 August about the importance of Australian television content for Australian children and the ACTF’s new show the InBESTigators.

Future speakers will include an events manager responsible for ABC Triple J’s One Night Stand concert, a scriptwriter for Neighbours and ABC Radio podcast producers.
