Sport and research make a perfect match

Shooting goals, protecting goals, and using research to achieve sporting goals will be among the topics kicked about at a special High Performance Sport presentation on Monday 16 July as part of USC’s annual Research Showcase.

The public is invited to attend the free event from 6-7pm that will feature keynote presentations by Sunshine Coast Lightning coach Noeline Taurua and Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young.

The sporting greats will also take part in a panel discussion with USC’s High Performance Sport Director Professor Brendan Burkett, injury prevention expert Professor Caroline Finch of Edith Cowan University and Clare Dallat of the Centre for Human Factors and Sociotechnical Systems.

The event will be held at USC’s Innovation Centre auditorium. To register, go to: www.usc.edu.au/sport-presentation

The public can also attend presentations throughout Monday that will highlight the latest USC research into sport psychology, nutrition for athletes, performance analysis, injury prevention, sport management, and even media coverage of sport.

Two popular annual research competitions – ‘Minute to Win It’ and ‘Three-Minute Thesis’ – will be held as part of the Research Showcase on the following day, Tuesday 17 July.

These competitions will run from 10.30am to 11.45am, promising plenty of rapid-fire information and entertainment as researchers present years of work in short timeframes.
