Hundreds attend USC Student Guild Day

Hundreds of new University of the Sunshine Coast students today enjoyed the USC Student Guild Day, which capped off activities for Orientation Week.

New students packed out USC’s Uni Club building to enjoy live music, stalls, a free barbecue lunch and a display by USC’s koala detection dogs.

The USC Student Guild is a separate organisation to the University and is run by students. It offers a broad range of support including welfare, advocacy, tenancy and legal support, and a food bank for students.

Student Guild activities officer Dan Bolton said dozens of student clubs were affiliated with the Guild, including the Criminology Student Institute, the Occupational Therapy Club and the Mosaic Student Collaboration, which focuses on intercultural collaboration.

“We’re really just here to provide any service we can,” he said. “If students have any ideas about starting a club, they should could come and talk to us.”

Mr Bolton said upcoming Student Guild events included subsidised bus trips to Eumundi Markets, Australia Zoo and Sirromet Winery, and a masquerade ball at the Innovation Centre.
