USC is gearing up to generate funds for students in need of financial support with its annual Giving Day, known as G-Day, on Thursday 16 August.

The University will stage an online crowdfunding campaign and provide activities at its campuses, such as free breakfasts and massages, to encourage those who can to dig deep for students who are doing it tough.

Every $2,000 raised through G-Day will provide one student with a Study Support Bursary, which will directly assist with study-related costs such as textbooks, food and transportation.

One hundred percent of every gift will go directly to students, and all donations of $2 or more are fully tax deductible.

USC Pro Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) Professor Joanne Scott announced today that the Scott Williams Foundation had pledged to match G-Day donations dollar for dollar up to $50,000.

“This is great news because providing support for students facing financial difficulties can often make the difference between them completing a degree or not,” she said.

“By supporting G-Day, people will be helping those in greatest need to continue pursuing their study goals and reach their full potential.

“And with the generous matching support from the Scott Williams Foundation, any gift from the community will have double the impact.”

The G-Day breakfast will be held at USC’s Sunshine Coast campus in Sippy Downs from 8am-11am.

USC’s campuses at SouthBank and Fraser Coast will have special G-Day morning teas, while USC Gympie will have a G-Day lunch from noon-2pm.
