Pathways to working in the region’s burgeoning health industry will be showcased at the first careers day for high school students at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute (SCHI) on Friday 10 August.

The institute is a dedicated education, training and research facility at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital run by partners Sunshine Coast Health and Hospital Service, the University of the Sunshine Coast, TAFE Queensland, and Griffith University.

More than 1,000 students from USC and TAFE Queensland are currently enrolled in programs at SCHI, and the Griffith University Medical Program will have its first Sunshine Coast cohort in 2019.

Students at SCHI have access to state-of-the-art educational tools and training that are used to develop and improve the skills of doctors, nurses, health professionals, allied health workers and vocational students.

At the careers fair tomorrow, each of the partner organisations will provide presentations to more than 200 high school students from across the Sunshine Coast in SCHI’s impressive auditorium from 9am to 12.30pm.

Director of the Sunshine Coast Health Institute Anton Sanker said the careers day would help raise awareness among high school students of the diversity of careers that the future health workforce will require and the accessibility of locally delivered education programs.

“This careers day will enable the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service and the Sunshine Coast Health Institute to showcase health career opportunities and associated education pathways for local high school students,” Mr Sanker said.
