USC to give young students a vision of the future

A day filled with dream jobs and careers of the future is planned for almost 250 Year 7 and 8 students at USC’s Fraser Coast campus tomorrow (Tuesday October 31).

The Explore USC event will immerse children aged 12 to 14 years in the university experience, opening their minds to what their future could hold.

Students will take part in a variety of interactive workshops, designed to encourage them to explore possible careers, including a moot court where the fictional Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry will be sued for damages by a former pupil.

They will measure their sporting skills in sport and exercise science challenges, test their knowledge of animal behaviours in an animal ecology workshop, and join hands-on activities in USC’s science, robotics and nursing simulation labs.

At a pop-up ‘Careers Mall’, USC student ambassadors will explain how they are choosing their career paths, and help the young high schoolers create dream job profiles.

USC’s Manager of Student Recruitment Courtney Geritz said the event was launched this year to help school students realise the many new and exciting career options available to them, including jobs that might not yet exist.

‘This unique experience will encourage students to think about their skills and increase their awareness about university and what’s on offer to help them realise these career pathways,” she said.
