Business and Engineering at the University of the Sunshine Coast have been recognised as national leaders in terms of student experience.

In the recently released 2018 Good Universities Guide, Engineering at USC was ranked first nationally across three categories of student experience for teaching quality, learning resources and student support.

And among USC’s Business offerings, the field of Computing and Information Systems was ranked first nationally for both teaching quality and learning resources, while the field of Business and Management was ranked first of Australia’s public universities for overall experience.

Head of School of Science and Engineering Professor David Young said he was delighted by these results for Engineering along with its five-star ratings in the guide across five of the six categories for student experience.

“It reflects the commitment of staff and the support of local engineering companies to train the next generation of engineers for the Sunshine Coast region and beyond,” he said.

Acting Head of School of Business Professor Meredith Lawley said the rankings provided great recognition for USC’s Business academics and programs that equip students with skills in critical thinking, problem solving and communication.

“The programs also provide students with a strong foundation for starting their future careers via unique collaborative opportunities with local organisations,” she said.

Meanwhile, USC’s disciplines of Nursing, Psychology, and Science and Mathematics each ranked at number one for public universities in Australia in the category of overall student experience.

The 2018 edition of the Good Universities Guide, which uses data from nationwide student and graduate surveys, is the first to feature star ratings at a field of study level. It awards five stars to institutions that rank within the top 20 percent of Australian universities for particular fields.

As well as those mentioned above, other fields of study at USC that gained five stars for categories of student experience were Creative Arts, Communications, Health Services & Support, Rehabilitation, Agriculture and Environmental Studies, Teacher Education, Social Work, Law and Paralegal Studies, and Humanities, Culture and Social Sciences.
