Studying while staying close to the ocean made enrolling at USC an easy decision for OP1 recipient and volunteer surf lifesaver Madeline Moss of Warana.

The 17-year-old Kawana Waters State College graduate is about to begin a combined degree in Science and Business, which she will balance with volunteering at Kawana Surf Life Saving Club and participating in acrobatics.

Madeline earned her bronze medallion for lifesaving in 2015, and has been involved in regular surf patrols and training since, including as an inshore rescue boat crew member.

After achieving strong results in her secondary studies, Madeline said she couldn’t wait to study topics like marine biology and marketing at USC.

“USC has always been my first choice for university,” she said. “I love the fact that at USC I'll get to be a part of the world-class facilities and teaching while being able to maintain connections with family and friends.

“I have always enjoyed science, particularly biology and ecology, and business also interests me as it’s so versatile. This dual degree seemed tailored to my specific interests.

“I am very excited to get involved with uni life and apply my passions and interests to my education.”

Attending lectures and tutorials will come easily to Madeline, who participated in a range of events at the Sippy Downs campus during high school, including science and engineering challenges, a language competition and USC’s Science Research Awards.
