USC award for Fraser Coast’s top educator

The search is on for an exceptional and innovative teacher to be named the inaugural USC Fraser Coast Educator of the Year.
Donated by USC, the Fraser Coast Educator of the Year Award is one of four new prizes to be introduced as part of a major revamp of the annual Fraser Coast Education Alliance awards.

New categories and criteria have opened the awards to all teachers and lecturers engaged at regional schools, TAFE, university and registered training organisations.

Previously it was limited to one prize for each sector, and only one nomination was allowed from each school or education provider.

The winner of the USC Fraser Coast Educator of the Year Award, valued at $1,000, will be recognised for their innovative teaching practices that demonstrate effective leadership and achieve outstanding outcomes for students.

The other new awards are:
• Innovation in Education Award for a new educational project;
• Educational Futures Award for initiatives that showcase the use of IT in education;
• Community Partnerships Award for initiatives that highlight collaborative engagement with the community.

President of the Fraser Coast Education Alliance Simon Done said the awards were designed to encourage the region’s teachers to develop innovative approaches to enhancing educational opportunities for students, leading to greater engagement with learning.

Nominations close on 1 May for the awards, which will be presented in partnership with USC and the Australian Council for Educational Leaders, at a ceremony at Salt Café, Urangan on 23 May. More information is available from FCEducationAlliance@gmail.com.

The Fraser Coast Education Alliance is a consortium of all education providers on the Fraser Coast, in partnership with the Maryborough and Hervey Bay Chambers of Commerce and the Fraser Coast Regional Council.
