Career trends in the fast-evolving health industry will be outlined by a panel of University of the Sunshine Coast experts at a public event on Tuesday 11 October on campus at Sippy Downs.

From prosthetics to nursing, midwifery, psychology and community care, four academics will lead the free Health Panel Discussion from 2pm to 3pm.

The discussion is part of that afternoon’s Meet USC, another free event that encourages members of the public to get to know the Sippy Downs campus.

Gill Adams from the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering said USC degrees were catering to the range of health issues faced by an ageing population.

“This panel will offer insights into the expanding job opportunities in health, where you can make a difference in the lives of others,” Ms Adams said.

The experts are:
• Dr Rachael Sharman, Lecturer in Psychology, who specialises in child/adolescent development and has worked in fields such as child protection and juvenile justice;
• Senior Lecturer in Prosthetics and Orthotics Benjamin Lucas, who specialised in paediatric orthotics while working in hospital and acute rehabilitation settings;
• Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery Kendall George, who worked in intensive care, rural and remote and emergency nursing, and a range of midwifery settings;
• Karen-Ann Clarke, Lecturer in Nursing (Mental Health), who worked in inpatient and community mental health as well as general health care environments.
