Almost 2,000 students, including 500 from overseas, will discover the serious and not-so-serious side of academic life at the University of the Sunshine Coast this week.

USC Orientation began today (Monday 18 July) and will run until Wednesday to welcome students who have enrolled mid-year in a wide range of study programs at the University’s main campus at Sippy Downs.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Students) Professor Karen Nelson said this event played an important role in familiarising students with the USC campus and community.

“Orientation allows students to learn skills to help them successfully transition to university study, meet other students and academic staff, and find out about the community, social and sporting opportunities that USC offers,” Professor Nelson said.

Students will attend specific information sessions on their study programs, and join in workshops on IT, research fundamentals and other essential study skills to prepare for the start of Semester 2 on Monday 25 July.

Student mentors will provide insights into university life and conduct campus tours, and information will be provided on available support and services, including counselling, study assistance and practical help with accommodation and budgeting needs.

The fun, social side of campus life is not forgotten, with entertainment including live music, free barbecues, team sports and market stalls by campus clubs and societies.
 
USC offered mid-year entry in almost 90 undergraduate and postgraduate study programs at its main campus at Sippy Downs, including Creative Industries, Design, Engineering, Health and Humanities.
