A sports dietitian from the University of the Sunshine Coast will give a free public lecture to help athletes and fitness enthusiasts separate fact from fiction regarding supplements on Friday 19 February.
As part of USC’s Friday Night Sport Talk series, Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics Dr Gary Slater will discuss the sports supplement industry and provide tips on best practice in supplement usage.
Dr Slater is a sports nutrition consultant to the Australian and Queensland Rugby Union programs and currently serves on the sports science advisory panels of the Australian Paralympic Committee and Surfing Australia, as well as the Supplement Advisory Groups of the NRL and ARU.
During his talk, Dr Slater will help athletes navigate conflicting information about sports nutrition using the latest scientific research available and share his views on current issues surrounding the sometimes controversial supplement industry.
The presentation, aimed at anyone aged 13 and over with an interest in sport, will also direct attendees to a range of resources to provide guidance on specific sport supplements.
The 30-minute talk will begin at 5.30pm at the USC Sports Stadium recreation room. Barbecue food is available for purchase.
Friday Night Sport Talks are a University of the Sunshine Coast community engagement initiative and are sponsored by local sports retailers.
