Imagine using state-of-the-art technology to build devices that will transform the daily lives of people who have had limbs amputated.

Imagine learning how to use the law to save the environment – while you do fieldwork in beautiful locations such as Fraser Island.

Imagine turning your passion for the outdoors into a career so you can teach more people how to enjoy an active lifestyle.

These are among more than 120 degrees to be showcased at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s 2016 Imaginarium and Open Day this Sunday 7 August on campus at Sippy Downs.

Thousands of people of all ages are expected to attend the free annual event from 10am to 2pm.

Amid the celebratory atmosphere of the free community fun day will be prospective students from across the region, gaining first-hand knowledge of the campus along with information on USC’s programs in Arts, Business, Law, Science, Health, Education and Engineering.

Four new USC degrees for 2017 will be in the spotlight: three undergraduate programs in Midwifery; Laws/Environmental Management; and Recreation and Outdoor Environmental Studies; and a Master of Professional Practice in Performing Arts.

And this year’s Prosthetics and Orthotics specialisation – the only Bachelor of its type in the country – is set to renew interest as USC barracks for its Paralympians in Rio.

From elite athletes to uni students transforming their lives, a “super powers” theme also will fly high across campus as young children wearing free USC capes gather at the main stage at 12.30pm for a hovering drone to take “the Coast’s biggest superhero snap”.

Main stage entertainment will include three hot Brisbane acts – Triple J Unearthed National Indigenous Music Awards winner Robbie Miller, roots and funk outfit Fat Picnic and dance duo Zefereli.

The four hours of innovative and imaginative activities for all ages will include last year’s popular Lab of Awesome, where tech-lovers test out the latest digital marvels at USC.
