First USC students to compete at Snow Unigames

Three University of the Sunshine Coast business students from Switzerland will take their snow skills to Mt Buller next week to contest the winter sport version of the Unigames.

Gian-Luca Reinhard of Alexandra Headland, Ramona Winiger of Sippy Downs, and Thomas Nafzger of Buderim will fly to Victoria on Monday to compete in the 2016 Australian Snow Unigames from 30 August to 3 September.

The only winter Unigames held each year, its program of sports events and social activities attracts hundreds of university students who travel from across the country.

This will be the first time USC has had students involved.

Gian-Luca, from USC’s Swiss partner institution HS Luzerne (University of Applied Sciences), said he had enjoyed completing a previous Business degree at USC Sippy Downs so much that he enrolled in a Master of Business Administration/Master of International Business.

“It will be exciting to compete at the Snow Unigames for USC in my ski events of slalom, giant slalom, super G and ski cross,” he said.

Thomas, from the same Swiss university, will also compete in four ski events before returning to Sippy Downs to continue studying his Bachelor of Business.

Master of International Business student Ramona, from partner institution Bern University of Applied Sciences, will test her snowboarding skills in the super G and giant slalom.

Liani Eckard of USC International said all three students received credit transfer for their home university studies to complete a USC degree in a shorter time.

“It has become a very popular option amongst European students from our partner universities to complete two degrees (one home degree and one from USC),” she said.
