The University of the Sunshine Coast will host a screening of an award-winning documentary on the coal seam gas industry on Friday 30 October.

The free screening of Queensland film ‘Frackman’ is the latest in the Education for Sustainability Movie Event series and is open to USC students, staff and the public.

Frackman is a feature-length film following anti-fracking activist Dayne Pratzky and his response to the expansion of the gas industry around the Darling Downs.

The film night will include a free organic buffet and a question and answer session with representatives from the Lock the Gate protest group.

USC Academic Fellow Phyllis Araneo, who teaches the course Environment, Technology and Sustainability, said Frackman took on some timely issues for Queensland’s environment.

“We host the USC movie nights to help staff, students and the public learn about sustainability issues taking place in our own backyard,” she said.

“This documentary looks at a really important topic for our environment and we would love to see a really diverse audience attending this screening.

“It doesn’t matter what field people work or study in – business, education, law, health – we all need to understand our connection to the natural world.”

The event will run from 6-9pm at USC’s Lecture Theatre 7. Free parking is available on campus after 6pm.
