The importance of the Glass House Mountains to Indigenous people will be highlighted by University of the Sunshine Coast students at an awareness event tomorrow, Thursday 29 October.

The event will be hosted by students of USC’s Tertiary Preparation Pathway program who have studied Introduction to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Societies.

TPP Associate Lecturer Kelly Chambers and student Robert Orth said the barbecue, to be held outside the Brasserie from 11am to 3pm, would include a Welcome to Country, yarning circle, interactive performances and talks.

Media are welcome to attend the event outside the Brasserie from 11am to 3pm. It is open to USC students and staff and invited community.

Mr Orth said students wanted to engage the community in respectful ways to create positive change.

“We’re raising awareness of the history and protocols of the sacred grounds known as the Glass House Mountains and other sites of the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
