Open day to showcase expanding study options in Gympie

Those keen to explore the expanding number of study options available in Gympie are invited to attend Gympie’s Learning and Education Precinct Open Day on Wednesday 24 June.

This event – involving the University of the Sunshine Coast, TAFE East Coast and the Gympie Trade Training Centre – will be held from 4pm to 6.30pm at 71 Cartwright Road.

USC Gympie manager Graham Young said visitors could stroll across the precinct and spend time focussing on the trades and careers of most interest to them.

“This Open Day will give people a chance to attend information sessions and learn all about the study programs and pathways available to help them make the right decisions,” he said.

“There will be tours and demonstrations as well as food and live entertainment. You can even chat with current students to find out what it is like to study in Gympie.”

The Trade Training Centre will provide a bricklaying class and demonstrations of a dingo digger, a gantry crane, construction work and CNC operations.

TAFE will have information stands, activities and demonstrations for its study options in Hair and Beauty, Cookery and Hospitality, Automotive and Engineering, Early Childhood Education and Care, Nursing Aged Care, Business and Essential Skills.

And at USC Gympie, visitors can find out about studying degrees in Commerce, Business, Social Sciences, Education, Nursing and Nutrition, and inspect the nursing training facilities and the recently launched USC Mobile Health Clinic.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of high school students from across the region are expected to tour the precinct from 10am to 2pm, with the biggest groups coming from James Nash State High School (385 students) and from Gympie State High School (200 students).
