USC welcomes 1,750 new students mid-year

Almost 1,750 new students will receive a friendly introduction to university life at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Semester 2 Welcome Week starting Monday 20 July.

The week will offer a variety of information sessions, activities and entertainment designed to help familiarise students with the USC campus and community.

Monday’s program will include special events for international students and those who have been out of study for a while. Then from 3-4.30pm, all new and continuing students and USC staff are invited to enjoy drinks and finger food on the Brasserie lawn.

USC Pro-Vice Chancellor (Students) Professor Karen Nelson said this event would give new students a great opportunity to meet other students and staff from their degree programs in a relaxed, social environment.

"The idea is to help new students understand the university environment and to meet other members of the USC community," Professor Nelson said.

"We know that the best way for students to learn how to navigate the university environment is for them to speak to experienced students who are studying the same program. It’s also an opportunity to meet some of the staff associated with those programs in an informal setting."

Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill will officially welcome students to USC on Tuesday at 9.15am.

Tuesday will also feature faculty and program welcome sessions, campus tours, study skills workshops, cultural sessions, free breakfast and lunch, market stalls from 9am to 3.30pm and a Student Guild Launch Party with live music by Asher Chapman and friends from 6-8pm.

Students can visit the USC website to see the full Welcome Week timetable or download the USC Welcome Week app.
