Adjunct Professor

In 2013, Brendan Doran retired from his successful career in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (previously the Australian Public Service), spanning over four decades. Brendan’s initial overseas placement was with the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, serving as the Australian representative to the United Nations and other Thailand-based organisations. Brendan’s professional experience expanded to postings in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Madrid, Tehran, Nepal and the South Pacific. From the mid-1980s, Brendan began to specialise in Antarctic diplomatic negotiations, contributing to the signing of the Antarctic Environmental Protection (Madrid), for which he was awarded the Australian Public Service Medal award in 1991.

In 2007, Brendan took leave from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for a seven year role in the Northern Territory Government as Director, Asian Relations, in the Major Projects, Asian Relations and Trade Division. Brendan has retired from active public service duty, and is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Sustainability Research Centre where he continues to explore his research interests and provide advice and commentary on international matters.
