Honorary Senior Fellow (April 2009)
John Lockhart was named an Honorary Senior Fellow in April 2009 in recognition of his distinguished educational leadership.
John Lockhart was the founding Principal of Chancellor State College from 2003 to 2008. In that role, he not only gained the deep respect of staff, students and the community, but also approached the role of Principal in a distinctive and innovative way, particularly in relation to the bond he created with this University. He was involved in joint international programs with us, for example, with New York State University for professional development of their teachers. Whenever opportunities arose for collaboration, John became personally involved, for example, when shared-use of sporting facilities was being promoted with the local Council, Education Queensland, and the University. He was a true visionary and charismatic leader, quietly and unobtrusively inspiring people around him to view educational arrangements in new ways. He stands as one of the most exemplary school principals, yet devoid of ego. Much of what this University and Chancellor have together achieved, has been built on the foundations created by John Lockhart.
