In 1990 she joined the Sunshine Coast and hinterland branch of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland and has worked tirelessly to raise public awareness of the need to preserve and protect our environment. Jill received an Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday honours list in 2010 for her “service to wildlife preservation and conservation in Queensland and to the community”. Jill has been an advisor to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council on environment matters and has been involved in lobbying support from government to preserve land from development for environmental preservation purposes. An avid bird watcher, Jill has also been involved in the ‘Fauna Watch’ project to educate and interest people in the wildlife living in their backyards.
