Herbert Stanley Tutt, OAM (1914-2011), better known as Stan, will be known to all those people who have followed his weekly historical columns about the Sunshine Coast in the 'Daily'. He was involved in active series in WWII in Papua New Guinea, and it was through the Army Education Service that he studied Journalism. Some of his articles and short stories were published and broadcast on the ABC. He started writing on a regular basis in 1945, through the Nambour Chronicle. In 1966, he joined the Caloundra branch of the Wildlife Preservation Society for Queensland, and articles he wrote on 'Wildlife and Landscape' appeared weekly for over 15 years. He became a foundation member of the Sunshine Coast Environment Council. Involved in Caboolture's and Landsborough's Historical Societies, he became party to establishing Landsborough's Historical Museum. During the period between 1973 and 1995, he wrote or edited seven books on local history and in 1994 was awarded an OAM for services to local history and conservation. In 1981, he began the 'Heritage' articles for the Sunshine Coast Sunday and they have provided a stream of fascinating historical insights into this Region. He consistently maintained a broad regional perspective of the Sunshine Coast.
