Emeritus Professor Peter Andrews AO was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in April 2015 in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a scientist and bio-entrepreneur.
Emeritus Professor Peter Andrews AO is an eminent scientist and bio-entrepreneur. He has led initiatives to develop the Australian biotechnology industry, and is an active participant in the commercialisation of Australian science and research. Author of more than 100 publications and the inventor of two patents, Professor Andrews has led scientific teams at world leading research institutions in Victoria and Queensland. He is also an academic entrepreneur—founding or co-founding 10 scientific companies since 1985. As a fierce supporter of idea generation, he penned ‘Uberpreneurs’ with social scientist Fiona Wood. The book aimed to inspire postgraduate students to realise their entrepreneurial dreams. Ideas that could change the world and bring hope to future societies. Appointed the State’s first Chief Scientist in 2003, Professor Andrews has long been an ambassador for Queensland science. He was instrumental in moving Queensland forward as a Smart State, and in engaging the community to better understand the important role that science, research and innovation have in future wellbeing. Professor Andrews was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2004, in recognition of his service to scientific research and the development of the Australian research-based pharmaceutical industry.
