Professor Pam Dyer was appointed as a foundation member of University staff in the then Faculty of Arts in January 1996 as a Lecturer. Pam is well-known for working tirelessly to seize opportunities and accept leadership roles, always measuring her actions against the benchmark of ‘how to best serve’ the University, students, staff and the broader community. Pam’s hard work, dedication and service was recognised with promotion from Lecturer through to Professor whilst at USC. Pam saw the Faculty of Arts evolve into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in the late 1990s and she became Dean of the Faculty in 2005. Professor Dyer’s teaching areas were in sustainable development, urbanism and urban design, and interpretation. Her career has included close links with active researchers within the local community as well as nationally and internationally. Professor Dyer participated as a member of many University committees, including the Academic Board. She is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia; the Sunshine Coast Branch of Graduate Women Queensland; Ecotourism Association of Australia; Birdlife Australia; and is a life member of the Sunshine Coast Environment Council. Pam was a member of the Caloundra City Council Environmental Advisory Committee from 1997 to 2006 and worked closely with the Environmental Protection Agency on a Social Harmony Project and an extended seabird monitoring project on the Great Barrier Reef. Pam is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management and The Open Ornithology Journal.
