Profile
Samantha Valentine joined USC as Associate Director, Research Ethics and Integrity of the Office of Research in November 2016. Her aim is to lead a sustainable culture of research integrity through the development and implementation of a framework that embeds the requirements of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research into the conduct of research and research training at USC. Sam also leads the development of new policies and undertakes the review of existing policies, practices and processes to support effective and efficient research governance and ensure consistency with legislative requirements and contemporary practice.
As Associate Director, Research Ethics and Integrity, Sam is part of the senior leadership team within the Office of Research and manages the Research Ethics and Integrity team, and supports the Office of Research Director and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) in achieving USC’s research portfolio broader aims.
Previous experience
Prior to joining USC, Sam worked in the higher education sector in Australia and the UK for over ten years, gaining considerable experience at research-intensive universities.
In her former position as Candidature Manager, UQ Graduate School, she was responsible for leading the candidature team and delivering quality customer-focused service and advice relating to higher degree by research (HDR) candidature management. In addition to managing the candidature team, Sam assisted the Graduate School's Senior Executive with high-level advice and support on candidature and broader research matters, as well as contributing to strategic and operational planning and to the HDR policy framework. She also worked closely with the Graduate School's Dean and Deputy Dean on grievances, appeals, and research misconduct issues.
Prior to commencing at UQ, Sam worked at the University of Oxford for several years in student and academic administration, including oversight of the HDR office, committee management and supervision of staff.
Sam holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Linguistics with first class honours from the University of Westminster, and graduated in July 2016 from The University of Queensland (UQ) with a Master of Arts in Writing, Editing and Publishing.
