Nicole joined the Centre early in 2018 as a Research Assistant on the BAT-RLX project, where she is primarily responsible for the coding of road user behaviour using Observer XT software and contributes to the reporting of findings to improve safety at rail level crossings. Nicole also provides support on the QLD Health Bridge Labs Project, which involves the translation of state-of-the-art systems HFE principles and methods in healthcare practice.

Nicole recently completed her Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) with the Centre, receiving a Class I and was awarded a Commendation for Academic Excellence and a Student Leadership Award. Nicole’s honours project explored the perceptions of the impacts of stressful events on train driver performance and presented by Associate Professor Gemma Read at the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB) Rail Safety Conference in May 2022. Nicole’s paper is currently in preparation for publishing, and after a short break from study she plans to undertake postgraduate study in 2024, with potential to complete a PhD focusing on a systems perspective on domestic violence in Australia.
