Dr Maxine Mitchell is an Academic Developer with USC's Centre for Support and Advancement of Learning and Teaching (C-SALT).

Maxine has worked in the higher education sector for the past 20 years across a range of central units responsible for the strategic direction, management, development, implementation and evaluation of learning and teaching. Over this period Maxine’s personal and professional focus gravitated to technology enhanced learning (in its many evolving forms) and the associated institution-led professional learning initiatives. This work purposefully enabled institutional and individual capacity building to foster quality, innovative changes in teaching practices to enhance the student learning experience. Paralleling this 20 year period Maxine has taught in a range of higher education contexts from large first year undergraduate foundational courses in business and communication to post-graduate courses within the discipline and scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education.

More recently, Maxine led a three year whole-of-institution project responsible for the coordination, design, development and implementation of the USC’s emerging blended learning strategic direction.

Currently Maxine is the Course Coordinator, Foundations of University Teaching (Foundations), a post-graduate, credit-bearing course introducing staff to the areas of pedagogy, curriculum, assessment and feedback, and higher education teaching and learning scholarship. As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), Maxine is responsibility for developing Foundations into a professional learning pathway, to meet USC’s institutional accreditation requirements to achieve strategic partnership with the HEA (known as Advance HE). Maxine’s work in this area is grounded within her PhD studies - Learning mobility in professional practice: Transforming workplace learning in higher education.
