Hejie Li

Dr Li was awarded his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wollongong in 2012. He continued to work as a Research Associate at University of Wollongong, where he employed crystal plasticity in a commercial finite element software ABAQUS to simulate the surface roughness and evolution of texture and microstructure.

Between 2016 and 2017, Hejie worked as the JSPS fellow in Professor Kenichi Manabe’s group (President of The Japan Society for Technology of Plasticity (JSTP)) at Tokyo Metropolitan University. Between 2017 and 2018, Dr Li worked as JSPS fellow and University of Tokyo Research Fellow in Professor Tsuyoshi Furushima group at Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo.

Since May of 2021, Dr Li started his position of research fellow (biodegradable medical implant) at ARC Research Hub in Associate Professor Damon Kent’s group at USC. Research focus is development of biodegradable metal-based medical implants (Mg, Zn, Ti, stainless steel) with physically and chemically functional surface molecular layers.

Dr Li has a wide range of research interests and is particular focus on surface modification of metal-based implant material, evolution of microstructure and texture, new micro and meso-scale manufacturing technologies, crystal plasticity mechanics and finite element modelling and simulation. Hejie is an expert in Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscope (FEG-SEM) with High-resolution Electron Backscatter Diffraction Analysis (EBSD), and proficient in electron microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction analysis, and mechanical property testing.
