Dr Bevan Rowland

Dr Bevan Rowland is a Senior Research Fellow within the Road Safety Research Collaboration unit at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Bevan has a long history of academic research (13 years at CARRS-Q at the Queensland University of Technology) and professional experience (including Federal, State and private industry sectors) in road safety. His research history and interest has been in the injury prevention domain, including issues associated with road safety management, work-related road safety, drug driving, driver fatigue, distraction and other human factors. His focus has been on utilising research to inform and develop practical and proactive interventions and strategies for road safety improvement.

He has coordinated heavy vehicle fatigue-related research projects for the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator developing an evidence base for informing law reform and future safety interventions. Additional professional experience included roles as Fleet Safety Manager (light vehicle fleets) and Safety and Compliance Manager (heavy vehicle fleet).

Since commencing at the RSRC (2021), Bevan has lead research projects in medicinal cannabis, drug driving, driver fatigue, driving impairment on Queensland beaches (South East Queensland and regional areas), and collaboration with Police in Central Queensland on a variety of projects.
