Dr Apil Gurung is a lecturer in the School of Health at University of the Sunshine Coast at UniSC Moreton Bay.
Apil has a keen interest in aged care and older adults. His doctoral thesis explored the understanding of decision-making by aged care nurses in transferring a resident to the emergency department. He supports the vision of efficient primary health care services in enabling older adults to live longer and healthier in the community. He has an extensive experience as a clinician and graduate nurse assessor in the aged care sector. His passion lies in ensuring quality health care for older adults through advocacy based on research. He is an active member of Australian Association of Gerontology.
Apil specialises in qualitative research approach and has great affinity towards qualitative research approach of phenomenography. Being a strong advocate for social justice he strives to operationalise this dedication via qualitative research. He is interested in inter-disciplinary collaborative research in addressing the challenges faced by older adults in the community.
