Dr Andrew Wood is a clinical psychologist who coordinates and teaches courses in the Master of Psychology (Clinical) program, and provides clinical and research supervision to Master’s students. Andrew is also the externship Placement Coordinator for the program.
Andrew qualified at Griffith University with a Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical Psychology). He has worked in a number of clinical and community settings in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast across the private, non-government and government health sectors. Andrew has also worked within the education system supporting and developing student wellbeing initiatives. Andrew co-authored the Time for Grandparents program, which for over a decade supported grandparents who are the primary carers for their grandchildren.
Dr Wood’s research in the area of substance use and addiction aim to understand the complex range of biosocial and cognitive mechanisms involved in the development of problematic behaviours, the assessment of these mechanisms, and the implications for clinical practice. Parental substance abuse and addiction problems can have a significant impact on child development. Dr Wood’s research also aims to further understand the assessment and diagnosis of consequent neurodevelopment problems such as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), and for children living in out-of-home kinship and foster care, the implementation of evidence-based carer support to optimise child development outcomes.
